RED WING, MN (March 2013) — Artists in the Red Wing area invite the public to visit their studios during the Studio Ramble Spring Studio Tour and Art Sale, Saturday April 27, 10 am – 5 pm and Sunday April 28, 10 am – 5 pm. Visitors can explore the works of over 20 artists among 13 sites.
This annual event offers a unique opportunity to tour the studios, meet the artists and see and purchase art work in a variety of media including pottery, painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, textiles, jewelry, computer imaging and Giclee prints. One of the sites will also have live music during the weekend. The studio setting allows for a behind-the-scenes look at the artists and their work. Many visitors enjoy one-on-one conversations with the artists and learn about the inspiration behind the pieces.
Visitors from the surrounding area, including Rochester, Northfield, Minneapolis, St. Paul and River Falls, come to the Studio Ramble to find distinctive artwork for their homes and offices. New artists join the Studio Ramble’s veteran artists to create a new experience each year. Artists’ techniques and subjects change over time so it’s worthwhile to take another tour.
“There’s an amazing amount of talent within our community,” explained Dan Wiemer, a participating painter. “You should definitely come and check out the artwork and enjoy some time in the beautiful Red Wing area.”

Chap Achen
Chap is best known for his black and white photography, his work reflects his Midwestern surroundings. He exhibits and has won numerous awards for his work in local area art shows. Ted Florine
A Graduate of Red Wing High School, he went on to receive his Bachelors of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota in 2006. He is a third generation butcher who found his love first in pottery and then in sculpting. He enjoys the functionality behind all pots and the way they feel in your hands, but also enjoys creating wall pieces that play on shapes, colors, and shadows to create a unique feel for each viewer. He draws his influences from his surroundings (nature, urban areas, etc.) as well as traditional Japanese and American pottery.
Doris Gardas
Her love of Nature and the surroundings of her native Wisconsin are the primary inspirations for her work. Drawing at an early age has developed into a life of art whether it involves capturing her grandchildren on canvas or painting the natural world.

David Husom
His color photographs document small town Minnesota and Wisconsin, particularly the Mississippi River valley. Art Kenyon
Art is a long time resident of Red Wing who believes in the valuable relationship between drawing, painting, and printmaking. He constantly explores new techniques, styles and compositions to mix detailed realism with abstract forms. His studio displays oil paintings, watercolors, sepia-tone coffee paintings, detailed graphite portrait drawings, and printmaking images from hand-drawn lithographs, Intaglio copper plate etchings, and original hand-rubbed woodcut prints. Amy Palmer
Amy Palmer has created jewelry for over 20 years. Matt Palmer has worked in a variety of mediums throughout his life and began collaborating with his wife Amy about three years ago. The creation of unique and fanciful jewelry is the result of their compulsion for salvaging old objects and materials and their shared passion for design and sculpture. Their jewelry evolves with the objects they find so no two pieces are alike.
Maggie Paynter
Margaret Paynter is an artist working in oil, acrylic and watercolor. “The process of painting has been a personal journey that has challenged my technique and furthered my growth as an artist. Paynter’s work is images from nature. Flowers, landscapes, and riverscapes are all subjects that she paints in a plein air or studio setting.
William Pringle Rodman
He is a documentary photographer with strong humanist leanings. His main interest is making candid black and white images of people at work and at play. He is currently photographing workers in traditional manufacturing jobs in Minnesota.
Ardee Rosasco
Ardee Rosasco is surrounded by a visually stimulating environment of water, bluffs and seasonal landscape colors. Art has always been a passion for her. Ardee paints with oils and watercolor in a Classical tradition including the Impressionist style of light to produce a painterly work of art. A few of her idols include Velazquez, Sargent, Vermeer, Artemisia Gentileschi and Hals. Subjects include landscape, portraiture, still-life and art design. Her work is shown locally and out-state in several private collections. She regularly participates in workshops with well-known artists.
Ann-Marie Rose
Her work is created on computers using her own photographs and scanned objects. She uses digital imaging because it offers a more intimate and complex relationship with her images. Peg Simonson
Peggy’s love of color is apparent as you enter her studio tucked behind the historic Anderson Center. Her painting mediums include: soft pastels, watercolor, where she often incorporates textured papers and ink, and a unique method of painting dyes on silk fabric which are then mounted on canvas. She also hand dyes and paints sumptuous silk scarves using a wide variety of techniques.
Neal Topliff
Born and raised north of Duluth, Minnesota, Neal has been a resident of Red Wing for over 10 years. He has written and recorded over ten albums released in multiple countries worldwide. Dan Wiemer
Bold, direct watercolor with strong design best describe Dan’s work. For twenty five years Dan has balanced a career of commercial illustration and fine art. His regional workshops are in demand and his paintings can be found in homes and businesses throughout the country. Guy Williams
Returning again to the Ramble is painter Guy Williams. His painting emerges from a survival need to paint. This need has remained an integral part of his everyday experience over the past forty years. Music has always been a driving motivational force for his brilliantly colored paintings. He thrives on laying out bright swatches of color, coaxing them to play symphonic notes on the canvas like a bass drum at the climax of a Richard Wagner piece.
Susan Weigenant
Susan has been developing her artistic style for the last six years. Her current work features garden, landscape, and horse themes. Along with transparent watercolor and palette knife paint applications, Susan’s three-dimensional horse portraits are so highly textural that they resemble bronze bas relief. The Red Wing Arts Association is the oldest arts association in Red Wing, originating in 1952 as an interactive arts educational program.
